Building the Domestic Church

Knights of Columbus has always been an organization dedicated to the well-being and support of Catholic family life. The family is the first and primary place where we experience and are formed in our Catholic faith. By building upon our current programs and activities, the Knights of Columbus continues to promote the family as a ”domestic church” where husbands and wives, parent and children, grow in their knowledge and practice of the Catholic Faith. In order to perform its important mission of evangelization, each family needs to find support in the sacramental life of the parish.

Strengthening our Parishes

Knights of Columbus councils have always responded to the most urgent needs of the Church, particularly through charitable and social outreach. In order to support the evangelization of family life today, our councils must be even more fully integrated into our parishes. As the world’s largest Catholic fraternal and family organization, we have a responsibility to dedicate our time, talent and resources to ensuring that our parishes our beacons of the new evangelization.

The following programs currently carry the Domestic Church designation:
Click on the link for more information.

  • Building the Domestic Church
  • Journey to the Inn
    • Father’s Day Affirmation of Wedding Vows

    • Food for Families
    • Keep Christ in Christmas – Poster Contest for ages 5-14
    • Spiritual Formation Groups (Into the Breach)
    • 5th Sunday Rosary Program
    • Family Week Celebrations

Additional Domestic Church activities will be released throughout the fraternal year. For information and resources pertaining to the Building the Domestic Church initiative, councils should visit kofc.org/DomesticChurch.

Family Prayer Night

A Higher Purpose
Strengthen the bonds within our parishes and build faith-filled families. This is an opportunity for council members, families and the whole parish community to come together once a month for an evening of prayer, dinner and fellowship.

Overview
Catholics often struggle with the reality that they do not have the opportunity to socialize and/or pray with other faith-filled Catholic families. It can be quite a challenge to raise our children in the faith when their only exposure comes from Mom and Dad.

Family Prayer Night is an opportunity for children to be exposed to regular people living their faith in a casual setting. Families of council members, as well as other Catholic families within the parish and community, will gather for prayer, dinner and fellowship. Multiple groups can be formed and families are encouraged to rotate between these groups.

HB Riding Center for Children with Special Needs

Therapeutic Riding Center of HB

The Knights of Columbus of St. Mary’s by the Sea conduct and annual campaign to benefit children and adults with special needs.  All of the money collected stays in Huntington Beach and supports the Therapeutic Riding Center in Central Park.  The riding center strives to empower children with intellectual and developmental challenges to discover their greatest strengths and gain a sense of self-confidence and self-reliance through the special relationship with a horse
